On This Day...in 1947

On this day in 1947, Mary Rebecca (Polly Ann) King (nee Williams) died.

Polly was born on August 20, 1862, to William and Elizabeth (Dodson) Williams in Haralson County, Georgia. Her brother, John Willie, was born when she was 7 years old.

She married Martin Ambrose King on January 8, 1888, when she was 25 years old and he was 20.

She and Martin had six children: William Thomas, John Henry, George Washington, Leon Martin, Leonard Worthy, and Lockie Edna.

Their son, William Thomas (1888-1955) married Annie Ardelia McGuire (1891-1954) (pictured below). Among their several children, they had a son named William Melvin (1916-2002) - my great-grandfather.

Polly died on December 5, 1947, in Smithfield, Georgia. Smithfield is west of Carrollton, between Mount Zion and the Alabama state line.

Martin and Polly are my third great grandparents.
