Cousin Causes Constitutional Crisis?
What do you know about the United States' 9th president? If you're like me, you couldn't even remember who the 9th president was!
Turns out, it was William Henry Harrison. It also turns out that there are some very interesting things associated with him and the fact that he's my 2nd cousin 9x removed is the least interesting things I've found.
Interesting things about him:
He was the son of founding father Benjamin Harrison (not the president, that was his grandson).
He was the last president born as a British subject before the American Revolution.
He studied medicine in Virginia and Pennsylvania before pursuing a military career.
He was the first governor of the Indiana Territory.
He was a member of the US House of Representatives and Senate.
He was nominated for the presidency by the Whig Party (1836) but lost the election.
He won the presidential election in 1840 by defeating Martin Van Buren.
He died while in office (pneumonia). His death created a "constitutional crisis" regarding the presidential line of succession. It was eventually decided that his vice-president, John Tyler, would succeed him.
He did just 31 days into his term, making him the shortest-tenured US president.
